West Wales-based Sky Barkers are a genre melting Indie trio. Playful and impactful tunes are tinged with infectious melodies and come in the form of an energy driven facade, rooted in songwriting with their own unique twist on their lyrical inspirations.

Made up of members Jo MacGregor Messore, Dan Messore and Matt Brown, their sound can be traced back to their own musical inspirations and offerings. Dan Messore is an eclectic guitarist and acts as the glue in their tracks, fusing guitar and bass. Matt (drummer) has an infectious groove that creates a strong canvas for a vibrant painting to be laid on top of. Whilst Jo grew up writing songs and performing, crafting songs that she and her audience can find solace in.

Speaking about this, she shares: “Performing in a raw, connective way, feels to me like pulling something down from the air and merging it with my own body, then sending it out – it’s my favourite thing in the world. Being human is fairly hardcore, so when we can lift up and share our small griefs and joys, it feels as though things make a tiny bit more sense. Or at least they ache less for having been recognised.”

Speaking further on the EP, they share: “Broken Shiny Love is a collection of songs from the past two years, exploring, as honestly as possible, some of the forms and shape shifts that Love knows. From reclaiming my femininity after teenage shame, to losing my mind in motherhood, to celebrating physical connection as an absolute necessity after the sterility of lockdown life. Let’s face it, we are all broken humans, but in releasing the need for perfection, in owning this messy mix of daily dark and light, we are also utterly shining.”
